FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND (2015) - Hundreds of Search & Rescue (SAR) personnel will come together on Prince Edward Island this October for SARScene - Canada's National Search and Rescue Conference. This is the information sharing event of the year, where federal, provincial, territorial, and regional attendees enhance their knowledge with training courses, conference sessions, meetings, field training, and exhibitions.

At this year’s event, SARscene will host its first ever Hackathon to highlight the benefits of collecting data and adopting technology for search & rescue. Law enforcement, military, SAR volunteers, provincial/territorial, and federal attendees will pitch their data related problems, while Canadian and international developers will form teams to try and solve them within just 24 hours.

This sprint to build working prototypes will be supported by industry vendors who will provide free access to resources and on-site technical expertise to assist teams. The event has been made possible through the support of the local PEI Developers group and D4H Technologies who provide Incident Reporting, Live Operations, and Equipment Management software across 16 countries.

All code produced at the event will be open-sourced, and made available to all search & rescue organizations globally through an international repository of plug-ins, extensions, and applications built on top of existing application programming interfaces and platforms.

In advance of the Hackathon, a SAR community forum has been created to gather ideas that the search & rescue responders want solved, allowing you to vote and discuss the ones you most support. If you, your organization, or province/territory have a data related problem you would like solved, submit a brief explanation to bring it into the public eye and gain support.

The SARscene Hackathon organizers welcome you to cast your votes and submit your ideas on the website http://hackathon.ideas.aha.io.

To join a mailing list to attend the event as either developer, problem owner, or supporting vendor, please email [email protected]
